Astro Boy

Movie Description

In 2108 A.D., the scientists of Metro City (a city which is situated on Mt. Sufion—a floating mountain) decide to rescue their city from the earth's pollution by removing it from Earth. The city is a floating metropolis that hovers above the planet's surface, its population tended to by a robotic workforce. The student Toby Tenma goes to visit his workaholic father Dr. Bill Tenma, head of the Ministry of Science, arriving just as Tenma is meeting with the militaristic President Stone. Toby is taken to a holding room, from which he escapes. Meanwhile, Stone and Tenma view a lecture held by Doctor Elefun on a new energy source extracted from the heart of a star, a self-sustaining positive Blue Core energy that could repair the world's pollution, yet it has a negative Red Core byproduct. Stone is intent on using the red core to fuel his new "Peacekeeper" military robot, but after putting it in, the robot rampages. The security shield is activated, but unaware to Tenma, Toby is trapped with the robot. In its attempt to break through the shield, the robot vaporizes Toby. Doctor Elefun is able to shut the robot down, but all that remains of Toby is his baseball cap. Dr. Tenma tries to replace Toby with a highly-advanced lookalike robot, programmed with all the memories taken from Toby's DNA, using a strand of hair found in the baseball cap, and powered by the blue core. The robot looks like a perfect copy of Toby, but when Tenma takes him home, the robot's personality is different from Toby's, making Tenma realize that Toby cannot be replaced. During a quarrel with two cleaner robots who make fun of his hair, Toby falls from his bedroom window and discovers that he had rockets built into his legs. Whilst investigating his new skills, there is a flare of blue core energy that draws Stone's attention. Stone dispatches his troops to capture Toby. Toby returns home, to find Tenma and Elefun talking. Tenma tells Toby that he no longer wants him, and despite Elefun's urging that Toby has a place somewhere in the world, Toby flies away. Moments later, Toby is ambushed by Stone's military forces, who fail to catch him, and he escapes. However, Toby falls to the Earth below. On the surface, Toby wakes up and meets a robot dog named Trashcan, who leads him into a trap set by a gang of kids consisting of Zane, Widget, Sludge led by a girl named Cora. He is then abducted by a trio of robots calling themselves the Robot Revolutionary Front. They re-name Toby "Astro" and warn him about Hamegg, who they claim enslaves robots, but Cora arrives to rescue Astro and takes him home with her. Astro discovers that Hamegg is a Fagin-like father figure to the children, a former Ministry of Science researcher in Metro City who now repairs robots on Earth. The next day, Astro joins the kids in searching for broken robots, and comes upon an 100 year old construction robot named Zog. Using the power of his blue core, Astro revives Zog. Cora reveals that she too was originally from Metro City, and doubts that her family misses her. Astro attempts to reveal his secret in turn, but gets nervous and doesn't tell.
