| Movie DescriptionFlint Lockwood (Bill Hader) is a young inventor in the fictional island of Swallow Falls. While displaying his newly-found invention, Spray-On shoes, at his Elementary school, he was made fun of by all his peers. Upset and convinced that his inventions are worthless, his mother, Fran Lockwood (Lauren Graham), thinks otherwise; she believes that Flint will do amazing things for the world and bestows upon him an official lab coat. She is said to pass away some time later.
Flint continues to invent as a growing child. His projects (Remote-control television, Hair Un-balder, Flying Car, Ratbirds, and Monkey Thought translator) never worked as well as he wanted. But now, as an adult, he has started on a new project: one that will turn water into food. Alongside him is his pet monkey whom he named Steve (Neil Patrick Harris). He believes that this would vastly help Swallow Falls, as the whole island is stuck eating sardines. After a first failed attempt, Flint is confronted by his father, Tim Lockwood (James Caan), a gruff fisherman. He asks Flint to work full-time at his tackle shop in the morning to avert his mind from inventing. While at the tackle shop, the town mascot Brent (Andy Samberg) (affectionately called Baby Brent) comes in to provoke Flint. He states that he will be cutting the ribbon at the grand opening of a newly created amusement park, Sardine Land, a plan made by the Mayor (Bruce Campbell) to make money. Meanwhile, at a news network, new recruit Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) was sent to go to Swallow Falls to obtain coverage from Sardine Land.
Flint escapes from the tackle shop to attach his invention to a large electric tower, but is intercepted by the town cop, Earl (Mr. T), who is always on the lookout for trouble. After shortly distracting him, Flint successfully attaches his invention, after which too much power causes it to turn into a rocket. In its path, the rocket destroyed Sardine Land and humiliated Sam in the middle of her report. In the end, the rocket blasts off into the sky where it soon disappears. Ashamed, he runs off to the town docks to hide from the angry townspeople. Sam walks to the docks, under the impression that she was alone. The two meet, and they realize that they have a lot in common, despite the fact that he had probably ruined her whole career. In the middle of their small dispute, flecks of mustard and pickles fall from the sky. Confused as to what might be the cause, Flint (as well as the whole town) look up to the sky to a see an array of large, colorful clouds that started to rain cheeseburgers. Amazed by this weather phenomenon, Sam decides to make a live report on it in order to redeem herself. The whole town, reluctant to partake in the food shower, ask if Flint would be able to make it rain more food, in which he agrees. |
