| Movie DescriptionMala (Evan Rachel Wood) and Senn (Justin Long) are two Terrians living on Terra, a planet several generations from earth that can support life but has an atmosphere inhospitable by humans. The peaceful planet of Terra is the destination of a ship carrying the remnants of mankind, after humanity had exhausted earths resources, terraformed and colonised both mars and venus, engaged in war when both planets seeking independence and obliterated all three planets. Initially the "Ark" blocks the sun, peaking the Terrians interest, but as they cannot use technology unapproved by the elders, no one can investigate. That is, until Mala creates and uses a telescope to view the ark, and the incoming scouts. She arrives to the city too late, and the scouts have already started abducting Terrians who willingly offer themselves to their new "gods". After Mala's own father is abducted, she goads a ship into tailing her, and tricks it into damaging itself in a wind tunnel. Afterwards she saves Lieutenant Jim Stanton, the pilot's (Luke Wilson) life and builds an airtight facility which she pumps full of air created from a native plant. After learning English, she recreates the parts needed for the ship to fly. Upon returning to the crash site, it is discovered that the ship has been moved. The elders, who have retained the technology from the dark days of war and hatred of the Terrians, have taken the ship in order to analyse it. After infiltrating the facility, fixing the ship and flying back to the Ark, Jim orders Mala to stay and goes to be debriefed. Mala ventures off and finds her dad after alerting the humans to her presence. While trying to save Mala, her father breaches the hull and ends up killing two men and himself while she is captured. After Jim orders Giddy (David Cross) to save Mala, he is ordered to be in the first group of fighters designated to defend the Terraformer. The Terraformer creates breathable air for the Ark and without it, they have weeks left, while with it, due to the Ark's wear, they have months. General Hemmer (Brian Cox) plans to use the terraformer to allow man to habitate the planet while killing off the natives. After dissolving the assembly, he can carry out his |
